St Francis California Poppy - Contains a number of alkaloids with sedative and hypnotic properties, mainly protopine, cryptopine and chelidonine. These belong to the group of isoquinolines which also includes papaverine and narcotine, and the narcotic effects are less powerful than those of the phenanthrene alkaloids of the morphine and codeine type. The Californian poppy also contains flavone glycosides (rutoside), and its action is altogether gentle, more in the direction of establishing equilibrium, and not narcotic. Excellent for inducing sleep and relaxation.
